recycle dryer lint

Start saving your dryer lint and you can make some fun dryer lint modeling material for your kids to use in arts and crafts! Dryer lint modeling material is sort of a felt like material that dries hard. You can shape it over armatures such as boxes, wire frames, bottles, balloon, etc. Dryer lint modeling material can also be pressed into a mold for a smooth finish. This recipe makes about 4 cups of dryer lint modeling material. So start saving that lint and let your kids have some fun!

Step 1:  Gather the following ingredients to make dryer lint modeling material: 3 cups dryer lint, 2 cups water, 2/3 cup wheat flour (not self rising), 3 drops of oil of cloves, old newspapers.

Step 2:  Put the dryer lint and the water in a large saucepan. Stir to dampen all the lint.

Step 3:  Add the flour to the lint mixture and stir thoroughly to prevent any lumps.

Step 4:  Add the oil of cloves.

Step 5:  Cook over low heat, stirring constantly, until the mixture holds together and forms peaks.

Step 6:  Pour the mixture out onto several layers of newspaper. Spread it out a bit and let it cool until you can handle it.

Step 7:  Use the dryer lint modeling material just as you would for any paper mache project. Layer it over armatures as mentioned in the introduction of this article or form it into shapes and patterns by pressing into molds.

Step 8:  Let your project air dry for 3 to 5 days. When it is dry it will be very hard and durable.

Step 9:  Store any remaining dryer lint modeling material in an airtight container. It will keep for about a week.
