pumpkin people This is a great craft for the “little artist” in your home. There is no need for knives so your little ones can create this fun fall or Halloween decoration all by their self. You may be amazed at how creative their pumpkin people look. Let them express their self and only help if they ask you too. Join in on the fun and do one yourself!

If you are a crafter, you probably have lots of odds and ends of craft items lying around. Gather on assortment of things such as yarn, ribbons, craft paint (kids love the sparkly kind) and glue. If you have some old hair pieces or doll wigs, the kids will love it.

You’ll also need a small pumpkin for each child. You can get them in different sizes too and let the kids build a pumpkin family. Leave the pumpkins whole and preferably with the stem on top. I’ve seen the stem become a really cool bun of hair on an old lady pumpkin person.

Spread newspaper on the counter or workspace so you can let the kids enjoy themselves without worrying about a mess. Give them each a pumpkin to work on and spread the odds and ends of craft items out. If you have any old hats to contribute, set them out as well. Old jewelry or strings of beads will become fashionable earrings and necklaces.

Have the children paint faces on the pumpkins in any way they like. You can help them put earrings on the lady pumpkin people by using a thumbtack to hold an old charm, or by looping the string of beads. They can glue old hairpieces to the top of the pumpkin people, or loop strings of yarn around the stem and let it hang down as far as they want.

Old neck scarves or feather boa’s can be wrapped around the bottom of the lady Pumpkin people to make them look even more stylish. Give your child an old tube of lipstick, so that she can do her pumpkins make up with style and flair!

If you don’t have any craft stuff to make your pumpkin people, start looking at thrift stores and yard sales for any kind of odds and ends that will work and build your craft box. It will not only come in handy for the pumpkin people, you’ll find your children digging through it to make other things! Let them explore their creative sides.
